What we keep
- Your .direct account. Your name and email, from your .direct account. Your password is never sent to LiveNews — it stays with your .direct account.
- What you report. Your reports, updates and corrections, with your name and the time, are public.
- Where a story is. The town you name. If you choose to share your location when you report, we round it to about half a mile before we keep it.
- Town news emails. If you ask us to email you when there's news in a town, we keep your email and that town until you stop the emails (every email has a one-tap stop link).
- Flags. When someone flags a story we keep a scrambled code for their connection, so one person can't flag a story many times.
Your town on this device
To show your own town's news first, we use the approximate place your internet connection reports, or your exact location if you choose to share it. The town is remembered on your own device, not on our servers.
What we never do
We don't sell your information, we don't show you tracking ads, and we never publish your email.
